What does a successful application look like?

While each of the trustees will have their own idea of what makes a good application, there are a few general guidelines which they will follow. These will give prospective applicants a feel for what the trustees like to see.

  • Smaller local organisations will be preferred to larger well-funded ones
  • Charities helping greater numbers of people will be preferred to those helping only a few. Group activity is preferred to individual support
  • Those involved in early intervention will be preferred
  • Those helping people with limited resources are preferred to those helping a broader range of the community
  • Geographical spread is important both in Scotland and Canada
  • Specific projects are preferred to general funding but contributions to the cost of employing staff, community workers are acceptable
  • Achieving aims through sport, organised physical activity, the arts, yoga and education are preferred
  • Building projects are not generally supported
  • Scottish charities will be preferred to English based charities offering services in Scotland
  • In Canada, applications relating to issues facing First Nation citizens and those in remote rural areas are invited
